Default starter numbers

I have a chance to pick up a starter for my car, (right date code /p/n) however the numbers on the starter look a little funny. The p/n is 1108361 and the "361" part looks a little different, almost like it was stamped at a different time. Was this the case, that the last 3 digits were stamped later, to differentiate a certain unit? Does anyone have pics of the numbers on a similar 68 starter to compare? I just don't want to spend the $$ on a restamp. Thanks John

1108361 is in my 68 coupe L79 with 4 speed and is correct for this car.
My digits were all the same but it should be easy to tell if yours are altered. Most likely the one you are looking at is the real deal, provided your 68 is a small block with 4 speed.

This sounds very much like a restamp. I's pass and wait for another 'real' one to come along.

If you want to buy it once, have it be correct and work better than when it wa snew, get the correct rebuilt starter from John Pirkle.
No more heat soak problems, no more slow start.
Spins it over like greased lightning and is all factory original with correct numbers and appearance.
He beefs up the guts inside to make it a heavy duty that would spin over the Titanic.
I had all kinds of problems until I had John rebuild my factory correct 68 1108361. Even sounds awesome when it turns the engine over.
Worth every penny

Avalonjohn,
John Pirkle 706-860-9047 pirklesr@aol.com
His starters are not cheap but you will likely never need to replace it again.
Also, hard to describe, but when you hear one of his starters with the high torque guts turn a car over, it is so solid and reassuring that you know it could turn over an airplane engine.
It sounds like a very solid turbine and the car starts immediately on the first turn. Awesome.
I have never experienced anything like it. Very solid and quality , hard to describe.
I also had my alternator rebuilt and my voltage regulator and both pieces are show room quality and function excellent. Almost seems a shame to put them in a car.
His reputation is well deserved, and he is highly recommended.
Good luck, you will be very happy.
