Default 'Extra' repairs while 'in the area'?

I started messing with the half shafts.

while I had them off, I pulled the arms off, and will be putting a new spring in. but since I have to move the exhaust anyways.....

I'll probably drop the tank and inspect it.

After that, who knows what might get fixed, just since I am in the area.

I wanted to see what some folks didn't plan to do, but just couldn't help it once they had something else out...

My car started with a leaky caliper. It's still in pieces in the garage getting everything from a new interior to suspension and breaks, and lights and wiring and everything else in between.

I say go for it. Get the shafts done and anything else that looks like it needs attention.

I know exactly what you mean. I wanted to get a little more acceleration from a dead stop so I figured I would change out the gears from 2.whatever to 3.70's. Not really my area so I took it to the shop and then it's like "You know, while you've got it up there"... ended up redoing the leaf springs, new shocks, all new bushings, U-Joints, basically everything in the rear end that had any wear to it was replaced.

But then you know, I'm going to lose some of the top end by doing this so I figured what the heck, the shop already has the car, I could switch out the transmission for a 700R4 with overdrive. And what the heck, lets throw in a shift kit and get this thing rockin. Gotta take the exhaust out to do that, so why not do new exhaust and new headers too. Hey, what's that leak? Oh, ok, just the radiator hose... replace that too. And what the heck, it smokes a little when I start it, might as well take care of the valve seals while I'm doing all of this other stuff...

When I bought the gears, I was expecting to spend about $500 overall. So far I'm in it for about $3,500, but damn it's going to be smooth when I get it back on Saturday. Meanwhile, I'll be working on finishing the tree house I was building for the kids so I can move into it when my wife finds out :P

This started as a spring replacement

Ended up
-rear end overhaul
