Default Throttle Cable install? Dash removal required?

Hello All,
I live in North Jersey and my throttle cable snapped on the way home from work. I have my list of items to order from Corvette Central, Guess it will NOW include a throttle Cable.

Is this something that has to be accessed through the Dash or can you go under the dash at the base of the steering column, or totally in the engine compartment?
I will be able to look it up once the manual arrives, but am trying to determine how long of a project this is all gonna be.
Thanks to all, pictures are always welcome.

I can't speak for 71 but my 81 was no big deal. You should see a gromment with the cable going through the fire wall. Pry the grommet out and disconnect cable at pedal.

I took mine out when I repainted the car.

You can get to it under the dask. You'll need some Motrine when you finish to help your sore neck.

To install the accelerator cable, remove the cable from the carburetor, then remove the bolt from the firewall. At the gas pedal there is a plastic bushing that contains a slot in it. If you pull the cable toward the rear of the car, this bushing should slip off the cable at the pedal. Reverse to install the new cable.

One last question, do you think AUTO ZONE/NAPA would have a replacement or should I go through Corvette Central?

Check NAPA, they use to carry stuff like that for C3's. I doubt AutoZone will be much help.

The cable is not available through aftermarket stores. I would suggest you look at our web site and price the cable.

If you need a quick fix and don't care too much about originality you can get a universal cut-to fit cable from Autozone....I used several of these and they work fine. It comes with all the hardware to attach to your linkages with no cutting of your car. But if you want it to look original just add the stock issue cable to your order with CC.

Got the cable from Wilcox and it was a perfect replacement!
Thanks for the info on the purchase.

Also thatnk to all who chimmed in, especially about the painkillers for after

I am glad I used the board advice and pulled the driver seat to access the pedal.
Was a tight spot to fit and even tighter spot to remove the boly holding the cable and pedal bracket top the wall.
Also reconnected the overrides for the washer and lights so they work now.
Wiper door remains stuck in the up position and will be addressed shortly!
ALL DONE though!
THANKS FOR THE GUIDANCE!!!
