Default No power at all

While doing my cam break in last weekend, I had an electrical short that stopped me half way through. It was too late in the day and I was too tired to try to work it out, so I covered it up and left it for today.

I started out this morning with my Volt meter and reconnected the battery. Only 12.4 Volts there, but enough for what I was trying to do. As an aside, I think I'll have the battery load tessted. Should be more than 12.4 Volts shouldn't it?

In any case, I had voltage at the battery and started looking for which fuse or link blew. Turns out, I have no voltage at the alternator, no voltage at the ignition and no voltage at the starter. How can this be?

The fusible links are all in the smaller wires are they not? I should have voltage accross the two large battery cables between the starter and the frame should I not?

Is there a fusible link in the main battery cable? I didn't think so but that would certainly explain what I'm observing.

I hate electrical !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike, I'd start by checking the ground cables at the frame. If that ain't it, check your ignition switch

I'll do the ground to frame first. Wanted to take a few minutes and lower my blood pressure first.

If not that, the ignition shouldn't affect the positive circuit to the starter should it? That's why I started there. Figured that this circuit, aat least, should be intact.

Check for corrosion at both battery terminals and the main cable down at the starter. I had the same problem once and it was corrosion at the starter main cable. Even though it looked like a clean connection, after I cleaned the starter terminal the power returned.

If you mean the big terminal on the solenoid, no the ignition switch has nothing to do with that.

About your blood pressure, take some of this

Good suggestion.

I'm going to the Raiders game later. I plan to get there a couple of hours early and imagine that I'll have one or two. Preseason games are especially fun at the coluseum. Often, if people are having enough fun, they won't even bother going in.

Still, it'll probably be the last time this year that they're unbeaten.
