Would a 700r4 from a 1990 vette fit a c3 350 (1976)

Sure, might require some xmember mods and a cut down drive shaft

The 700r4 is a little over 3" longer, and has a lock up converter.I was putting one in mine, but found another 4spd and will go back to a stick come winter.Summit has the harness for the 700r4 in their book.It should be a great swap.I have seen it done on a c-3 a few times.

I think you'll need a different tailshaft housing. Try the housing for an 80's to early 90's caprice with a 700R4 - get the speedo drive gears while you're at it. They should have the properly spaced mount bolts to make the install easier. If you don't swap tailshafts, you'll have to use the mount holes in the transmission itself, which are a few inches farther forward. I have not attempted this swap yet, but I'm thinking about doing the same with an '88 vette 700R4.

Looked online but couldn't find it. Ordered the catalog. If you know the link it would be appreciated. If not I will wait patiently as my car still isn't here from MI yet. Carrier still hasn't picked it up. I'm getting impatient

BowTieOverdrives should be able to help you with all parts needed for the conversion, including a crossmember.

Ok, Here is the scoop. Just finished installing 700R4 in my 74 Vette yesterday. I purchased the BOWTIE crossmember. It bolted right up. Crossmember is powder coated. Looks much better than stock cross member. If you are replacing a T350 you can use your yoke and shaft shortened 3". I replaced a T400 and had to shorten shaft 2.50" I also put in a 373 rear so had to change speedometer gears.
If you never removed a auto Transmission from your Vette?? Remove front cover shield and remove the TC bolts. Remove all other bolts and it will slide right out of there. Took me 2 days to finish job. Another set of hands would have been great but none available. Still a piece of cake. Go for it.

An origional 84-93 trans has no provision for a trans mount. The area of the case that normally is drilled and tapped for the mount is hollowed out. Any other car will have the mount boss there.
This makes a c4 vette case about useless for anything other than a c4 vette.

But I have a C4 trans in mine with a BowTie crossmember. The BowTie crossmember wants to use the mount holes just behind the pan that isn't there on a C4 trans case. I used a '82 C3 tailhousing and made a bracket to put the mount on the rear side of the crossmember. I think the Caprice tailhousing is similar. No problems. Other than that you need a shorter driveshaft. Be sure to adjust the TV cable before you drive it. VERY important.

Yes. The Caprice tailshaft housing has 2 mounting bolt holes like a turbo 350 or 400, so you don't need the case with tapped mounting holes. I'm not sure if the speedo drive gears are in the exact location on both tailshafts though.

I'm not sure what else was involved in the swap, but my 1980 is now sporting a 700r4 from a 1991 vette so yeah it is doable. I think there is a different driveshaft to compensate for the length though.
