Default I need help to ID a motor

Hi,

I've tried to identify this GM V8 with little success.
I looked up sites by posts from folks and still cannot ID.

The numbers I can see are as follows:
At the rear of block: 3970010
On the passenger side front pad, there are (2) sets of number/letters.
The first set are smaller than the second set.

1st set: 14J248511 2nd set: V0603 CMR

Can anyone decipher what this motor is and what it came out of?

Thank you.

Rudy

CMR Suffix was used in 3 Years
1974 350 thm 145 hp 2bbl A body
1978 350 L82 mt.220hp 4bbl Vette/Z28
1980 305 thm 155hp full size
You need to look for the casting date to tell you what year you have

14J248511 - 1= Chevy, 4= 1974 CMR in '74 was used on the AT, so you've got the block from the 145 hp listed above. CMR was used on several models that year.

BSiegPaint,

So its a 74 145 hp 350?
I guess the casting date would mean nothing at this point.
After doing a bit more research, I did see the above info.

Thanks for confirming that. It also said it was from an "A" body.
Do you know or anyone knows what models in 74' were an "A" body?

Thanks.

I think it came out of a 1974 Camaro.

There is a date code (ex. D25 4 /April 25, 1974) that is next to the casting number 3970010 on the block.

1- Chevrolet Division
4- 1974
J- Janesville, Wisconsin VIN Engine Assembly Plant
248511- VIN number

V- Flint Engine plant
06- June
03- 3rd Day
CMR- 1974, 145 HP 350 V8, Turbo Hyd. Transmission

The V0603 is the assembly date (June 3rd) and not the casting date. The casting date is located on the other side of the block from the casting number, back by the bellwhousing.

To all that have responded:

I appreciate all your help here.
I'm inexperienced at a lot of this and my questions may sound stupid,
but I am quickly learning with all of your help so thanks for that.

If the motor originally came with an automatic and is hooked up
to a 4-speed manual, will the drive train be ok?

I have transmission questions too.
The numbers and locations I found are as follows:

Drivers' side - Rear: 3952648
There are what appears to be (2) clocks embossed on the casing.
The first reads 3:45 and the second, 10:20.
There's a metal tag on it as well. The numbers are 7M110896.

Passenger side - Rear: 392561
Then, US Patent # 308833 with the last number as an 8 or 6.

Many thanks.

Rudy

The engine doesnt care whats behind it. You do however, have to use the correct bellhousing, flywheel, starter to interchange transmissions.
