Default tri-power

Hello everyone, I have a tri-power set-up that I am trying to determine if it is a matched set. The intake # is 3937797 my research showed this to be a 1969 427 cubic inch, 435 HP, L-71 intake. The outer carbs are 3659 and they came back as 67-68 427. The center carb is a 4056-1, it showed as 1970 427, 400-435 HP. I can not find,or maybe I do not recognize any date codes on either the carbs or the intake. I am looking to get them rebuilt. They look complete to me with the air cleaner and linkages, but the air cleaner is in rough shape. I have had this set up for about ten years now. I may sell it as is or have them rebuilt first. If anyone has any info or ideas how I can determine if they are an original set or how much I should ask for them it would be greatly appreciated. I was going to install them on a project I was building but I sold it. If I keep it I definitely want them rebuilt professionally. I can not find anyone in my area to do it. Thanks for everyones help. Bob

Just under the list number on the carbs is a 3-digit or 4-digit date code. If 4-digit, not original because later dating system. I don't remember for sure how to decode the date codes, but this will let you move a little forward.

Bob, on the manifold you listed, this is for a 435 horsepower car, and the center carb is for the very rare automatic from '69 only (255 made). If the date codes work out (front and rear are typically the same, and center is usually close), then you have a '69 435-auto tripower setup.

There should be an idle solenoid and bracket, as well...these are VERY valuable, as they were only for 435 hp-auto and 400 hp w/ac.

Regards,

Steve

Default Thanks

The code on the outer carbs is 2079 and code on the center carb is 2549. If anyone knows what that means. Thanks for your help guys. Bob

since 4-digit, would be '79 or '89 replacement carbs, the first three digits are Julian, so the 207th day of '79 ~ July.

Steve

PS: Do you have the solenoid/bracket?

look at the bottom of the page at this link for date decoding (confirms that your carbs are later than '72, so replacements, not original):

Hi Steve, I dont know what the bracket would look like. I am trying to include a picture of the set-up but I am pretty computer illiterate. Bob

No I dont have that on the carbs. There is an arm behind the throttle cable connection that sticks straight up that I am unaware of what it would be for. There is also a small thin arm that is spring loaded and operates a rubber stopper on top of the center carb. Thanks for all your help. Bob

Bob,

Glad to help. The manifold is worth $800-1500 depending on condition, the end carbs are probably worth $250-$500 each, probably would go as a pair since dated the same. The center carb is probably worth a bit more -- was only used on '68-69 400 hp and 435 hp cars with automatic, maybe $300-600.

Steve

PS: I asked about the bracket because it has been described as a "$5000 bracket" due to its rarity!

Thanks alot. Do you think I should have it rebuilt if I sell or just sell as is. I guess what I am saying is, is it worth it to spend the money to rebuild the carbs. Wow I wish I had the bracket.

Bob, merely my opinion, but I'd recommend selling as-is.

That way someone who needs the setup can deal with the rebuild hassles/time/expense;, and it would be hard to charge significantly more than the difference in cost.

As a setup, you could probably sell fast and easy for $1500, if you have more patience you could get a bit more.
