I have a spare. Not going to sit on the side of the road waiting for AAA, spouse, a friend, or flat bed tow truck to show up. Quicker and easier to change the tire myself--and would not leave my car on the side of the road unattended--even if I was only 10 miles from home.
Obviously few here have ever had a C 3 flat, tread separation, sidewall blowout or been in an area without cell phone service! Maybe I have driven too many miles in C 3's over the years and am driving my current C 3 too much!
If a 255 tire is flat, it will fit in the spare tire carrier--ask me how I know;
But then, maybe I just worry too much!

No spare here but its full. Filled it with foam, did cut outs for tools, a DC air pump, cables, jug o premixed antifreeze, and other odds and ends. Kept weight = to the spare.

that is a spectaular Idea!!!!!!!!!!!
could you take some pics, I may do this myself
first thing i did when i bought the car was pull the carrier and spare (before i even changed the oil). The great thing is that it lifted the rear end high enough so that i don't scrape the convertor on my driveway as I pull in .
My '70 has an original spare, jack and carrier, But they are not on the car. That is real smart huh? now this weekend I'll go for a ride and get a flat. Then not haveing a fire extinguisher either the ole girl will just burst into flames as I scream out my obsenities over the flat.
I keep a plug kit in my daily driver. No need in the vette.
The C5 wheels I have are fitted with run-flat tires.
I may never even have to check pressure again .... LOL. (J/K I will keep 'em full).
I haven't had the spare in the car in 10 years. I do have good tires and I carry a few cans of Tire-Flat that I never had to use. Of course, like most, I also carry a cell. ( It weighs a lot less then the spare).
If I was to ake a cross country trip, then I would put the spare back in.
Once I become operational, I'll be running C6 wheels with Goodyear run-flats. I'm building an oversized fuel tank that will take up some of the carrier area.
I remember reading somewhere that the spare tire would help in the event of a rear collision. I check my spare once a year and keep it 5lbs. over-inflated. 75 coupe.

I always have a spare when I am driving my truck its on the back next to the other rear tires. I actually had to take one off the back and drive home from Reno with one rear on.
One day I was in my Tahoe about 20 miles from civilization with no celluar service and no spare on an ond logging road, as you could guess I ripped a sidewall. I sat there for about 20 minutes and a guy with a 6 lug chevy truck rolled up and gave me his spare!!! I could not get ahold of him so I drove around town close to where he said he lived and finally found his truck and put the spare back in his truck.
no spare, removed the carrier last spring, looks much better without it hanging down, plus it had the original small spare and I'm running 275's on the rear. Even if I had a flat and had a decent spare,not sure where I'd put the big flat tire, would not fit back in carrier. ( ask my wife to hold it on her lap? )
