Headlight switch help?

Headlight switch help?
I know that this has been asked / answered many times over, but I still don't get it. I got the dash out and the ****/post out. How do I get the assy separate from the dash to replace it? Do I turn the black plastic part, or the metal part in the center? Or, do I remove it from behind somehow? What tool do I use? Thanks
