Another Vette Rod/Frame off project thread

more fun with Bubba's handy work. Bubba went and ground down the 'glas and then went and put filler on it to level things up agian instead of fixing the nose bumps the right way.

As far as colors go, every car or truck I have owned have been black, except the Vette, so I figure why break with tradition, lets go with black again.
I am going to get the engine compartment and underside painted silver to match the chassis. I think it will look good, anyone else have any suggestions? Wife wants the car to go a dark blue, so I have also been playing with the idea of getting a blue to black fade or something like that, blue on the lower half of the body and black on the upper half. I am planning to do the interior a light to medium grey color with a bit of black and red accent.68 NJConv 454 I haven't considered POR-15 for the bird cage, I was just going to get the interior, birdcage and exterior all painted together the exterior body color. Have to think about this some.
Once I get the front stripped I will be removing the front clip to make it easier to get the inside and hard to reach parts media blasted. I also have a lot of work to do on the firewall as well.
Well back to working on the Vette. Probably won't get much done over the next few days because my corvette club is putting on a huge show this coming weekend and I am helping with it. Its one of the biggest all corvette shows on the west coast.
Check it out.
Corvette Spectacular
Check out Santa Clara Corvettes, great club.
More to come.

Found some more "Bubba Special Bodywork". If I ever find this monkey I am gonna take a grinder to him. Way too much body filler used, did this guy own shares in a body filler company or something? Makes me sick.

And this is AFTER I have removed a lot of the filler all this for a small crack about 1" long.
The rest of the weekend is shot so I wont be getting anything done on the vette for a few days. Blah.
UPS did deliver a box for me yesterday! Wheeeee! more parts from Paragon. Still waiting for the front cross member though, its on back order. Better not take long to get here, its holding up my trip to the powder coating place. Want to get it all done at once.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Haven't done any work on the old girl this week, work been killing me bad. UGH! Did get notification that 2 more boxes shipped out from Paragon however. Can't wait!

Who hoo!
finally got my cross brace. Now I can go and get all the parts powder coated and get that taken care of. Have to get brackets for the engine accessories and also a rad next.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Got a fair bit done on the Vette this weekend, Wifey even helped for a while Saturday. Here are some pics, CitrusStrip works really well. There seems to be 2 different kinds of primer, the stuff that basically turns into something like melted chocolate and just drips off and the other stuff that just doesn't come off at all. The grey primer though comes off as the CS gets brushed on, its really easy to take off.
Finished the front of the car, working on the engine compartment and the rear now.
Front finished...I was REALLY wanting to 'glas the gills after a while. Glad I didn't though, they look really good and turned out well.

Wifey did a marvelous job here!
A few last touchups to finish off. Legs get stiff after sitting on the floor to get to the underneath of the nose.

Front inside the engine compartment

Rear quarter panels.
After painting on some CS and waiting for about 30 minutes or so.

The primer practically washes all all by itself.

After first pass scraping

part done, we are getting there.

All done the quarter panel. Over all this took about 2 hours or so.

Here are the door openings (what do you call these?)

I like the Black Pearl w/Silver Racing Stripes down the hood and trunk lid. Project looks great so far. Keep the pic's coming.
Looks like you're doing a great job. Like everyone else, I love that frame. I'm gonna have to try some of that citrus stripper too. I've been sanding mine but there are areas that I think stripping would be a lot easier and more complete.
You've killed me though--now I have another thread subscription
Keep up the great work!
Keith
That said, it seems to working - it just takes longer with mine - not sure why.
I can touch the CS all day with my hands and don't feel the slighest burning sensation at all- kinda amazing to me.

a nice plus that.I think that you paint isnt coming off as easily is because GM changed paint in the early '70's (anyone chime in and help me out here) and I think they stopped using the laquers and went to a polyurathane paint. Is this correct? Just a thought.
By the way I will put one coat of CS on and then wait 20 minutes and then put another coat on and wait 20 minutes and see how its going. Some areas definately strip much easier then others. Like the quarter panel came off almost by itself but the door jambs took a lot more work.
Good Luck 79V!

I guess I'll have to look at Lowe's or Menards (thats all we've got)
