Just ran across the muncie overdrive gear set from auro gear equipment. I was woundering if anyone is/has used them and what their opinion is? The geat ratio's are 2.20/1.35/1.00/0.87.
I wounder how they would work with a 3.08 rear end? any thoughts?
I'm not worried about 1/4 mile times, since I have never beeen to a drag strip. I 'm more interested ingas milage and highyway cruising. I'm sure someone runs a std muncie with a 3.08 rear who can tell us about the take off's. Here is the link www.autogear.net.
Most guys that run 3.08, 3.23, or 3.31 gears use a wide ratio transmissions, like an M20 or a Super T10. There steeper 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ratio's make up for lack of rear gear torque multiplication. When used w/ small block engine, I personaly wouldn't use a 2.20 1st gear w/anything less than a 3.70 rear. Just my .02.
"Which brings us to the M21Y, the overdrive you've heard about. It's not for everybody, but if you're running an M21 with a 4.11 or higher, it may be for you."

My original L-79 '68 had 3.08 rear with a close ratio (2.20 first). It would turn mid-14's pure stock. I would say for you it might work out fine.
