1, hidden gps with battery backup separate from alarm
2. alarm
3. 2 kill switches (HEI & starter) again separate from the alarm
4. Club...just for looks as I put it on but never lock it.
5. Changed my ignition wires and HEI wire from pink to black at the source....trust me with all the other wires up there its impossible to figure out which wire is which

The only way there getting my car is by a tow truck and even then they would have go through some serious disassembly to find the gps system. The gps system works awesome....It will work in parking garages/warehouses/and my parents garage so there goes the myth about needing a clear view of the sky. Also if my car moves more than 1/8th of a mile with the ignition off it will send me a notification letting me know the car is being moved.

Are you confortable telling me which GPS system your using? I've been researching them for my car. Ive found the monthly fees to be very expensive.

I went through 3 different GPS systems until I found 1 that would work consistently, etc. I did all the installs myself and I only recommend that you do the same and its really simple.

1. Tried KarrTrack ...they have a single rectangular looking unit with a built in battery back up and remote antenna. POS never worked right and I went through 3 different units and countless hours trouble shooting with them. It cost $650 for the unit and then $100 for locates/pings that are not worth $hit. They of course tell me I am unlucky and that they never had this problem and I had multiple different problems with each of the 3 units. I got my monies back.

2. Tried some other no-name system and it was better but still not 100% satisfied.

3. Had the Viper GPS system for the last 2 months and thing works like a charm. Sends both an email and voicemail alerting me the following with my car
A. Car moves more than 1/8th mile with ignition off ....got to test it out twice recently when I broke down and worked instantly as soon as we hit about 1/8 of a mile I got a call on my cell phone with an automated vioce saying car is moving with ignition off
B. Tells me if alarm is going off if you have a viper alarm system
C. I can remotely arm/disarm the car's alarm if you have a viper alarm system
D. Battery below 10.5 volts and this works also as my new yellow optima is not holding a charge so I don't drive it for a week I get a low battery message
E. Battery backup is suppose to work for 24 hours
F. Does some other stuff but can't remember it all.
G. Viper GPS theft recovery hotline 24/7
H. Speed minder...tells you when car goes over any mph that you choose. So if you put it at 70mph...it will only send you a message when you car goes over 70mph. You can turn this feature off so it does not send you a message and cost you a locate, but it will still register on their website if your car exceeded 70mph.
I. Battery disconnect also....

I think you have to have it installed by a so called professional but the person was an idiot at the shop I took my car too so I ripped out all his stuff the next day and spent 4 hours wiring it myself. Not telling where its at...but as a hint its very nice having a fiberglass car as the antenna works right through the body like a charm so after removing a few body harware parts and mounting the GPS....it is now totally hidden. I have tried it in a regular house garage, large office parking garage, and at the shop where I was having some work done as they have a steel buildng and it works every time. Cost was $500 and another $250 for the install but I got $150 back after bitching them out as the guy did absolutely nothing right and did not even bother hiding it where I had told him to hide it and I took him the car with the dash disassembled as I did not want him messing anything else up. after seeing the unit, etc...I decided to put it in a totally different location. I was not asking for anythng really fancy...just the basics and then I get my car back with this cluster f_ck mess of wiring. I guess you can tell I was happy with the install :-)

I drive my car almost as a daily driver and now I rest so much easier knowing all my hard work saving up for my vette will be recovered rather quickly if anybody decides to mess with it as you can't beat a hidden GPS system that works for allowing you to enjoy an evening out at dinner or going to the park or the beach, and even sleeping at night as I live in a large condo on the beach so I don't have a private garage.

btw...you can run the Viper GPS system totally separate from the alarm. Right now I have it separate not connected at all to the alarm.

The best security system doesn't cost a cent. DON'T LEAVE YOUR CAR UNATTENDED!!! If you do, your car is at risk...regardless of the security systems on it.

Thanks carpedm. I wouldnt let anyone install this in my car either. Ive put these into a few cars at work as we are testing them for fleet applications. All you need is ground, ignition and battery. I forgot about the fiberglass body though...it makes the installation of the antennae easier. Do you have to pay any kind of monthly fee for Viper system? Most of these use a cellular carrier to transmit the signals from the GPS box.

there is no monthly fee.....you have to buy whats called 100 locates for $150? and then you get charged 1 locate each time one of the trigger features (car towed, battery low, etc.) sends you both a voicemail/email. I figure my 100 locates will last me almost 2 years....then I will have to buy some more.

Yes...never leaving your car unattended is always my first option, but I certainly do enjoy driving to the Key's for the weekend and parking it in a safe location at the hotel (call in advance) and then not have to worry about it while I am having fun paying attention to my other girl in my life.

Im getting the clifford 5.1 with proximity sensor thursday.... having extra pizio horns put in with leds on both sides of the car. I also have kill switch for ignition. also have a club for looks. I dont think ill get the GPS system yet. If i had a 50k car maybe but i have a 10k car that can be replaced... Im more worried about stuff in the car than someone taking the car. keep wondering hands out of the car.

I use a stering wheel lock with built in alarm if moved. $65.00

a wheel lock so they have to at least have to replace wheel to move it.$115.00

Clutch / Brake pedal lock so thay have to saw one of them off to drive to use either the clutch or the brake. but i can't seem to find a picture of it now.

Having your security in layers is the best thing you can do.
