Hi
I'm looking for insurance for my new '78 vette.
I called Grundy, and they said that they cannot insure just one car, that I would have to insure two. Has anyone else here been told that? Sounds weird to me.
I called Hagerty too, and they sound like the best with respect to the least usage restrictions. But also the most expensive (by over $100)

Use Hagerty. Great policy and service. I have my car insured for an agreed-value of 25K with no deductable. No mileage restrictions, but it must stay in the garage.
I just had the windshield replaced two months ago; it was very painless...and didn't cost me a penny.
I use State Farm - Agreed Value policy Agreed Value $31,000.00. NO RESTRICTIONS, Spare Parts autmatically insured. May seem expensive to some, $180.00 every six months = heck of a lot cheaper then what I was paying under normal insurance.
I have Condon and Skelley (division of MetLife). They have mileage restrictions of 4000 mi/yr but do allow you to drive it to work and leave it unattended. Pretty sure all true Collector policies will force you to have a DD and the 'Vette for just limited use only.
You may want to get a bid from AAA. I've had 3 vettes insured by them with no hassels and a fair price. I think they have a "collector" car policy as well as a regular auto policy.
Are you sure you got the requirements right? I have only my Corvette covered by Hagerty...however, they require you to have at least one more car which you use as your regular transportation. I had my regular car insurance agent underwrite the Hagerty policy to satisfy those requirements. (I still just pay my reg. ins. carrier for the home buggy and pay Hagerty for the vette.)

Mine is covered by AAA, but not collector car covreage. Depriciation sucks.
I have never heard they had collector car insurance and I'm thinking to switch to other insurance company for collector coverage.
Are you sure they have it ?

Yeah, I asked her to confirm if she meant that I needed to have a normal daily use car in addition to the classic car, or if she really meant that I needed to have 2 classic cars in the policy. She said the latter, which sounded really weird to me.
I've got Grundy, they won't do one car. I have a 76 and 96, both are covered by them.
So here's your chance, go buy another vette so you'll have two to insure.
Your problem is your regular insurance agent. They just don't know the "ropes" in how to write it. You really need collector car or "hobby" car insurance on your vette...unless your regular insurance allows "agreed value" coverage on total loss. This means that you state what the value of your vette is and send in specific photos of your car; the insurance company reviews the photos (asks for more detail if they want to) and, hopefully, agrees with that value and writes the insurance policy. Many such policies require that most of your driving be related to the collector car purpose...car shows, car cruises, etc...and that you not drive more than so many miles per year. I keep a little log book of all my C3 miles just so I can prove how I've used the car.
I have Haggerty and never heard of this two car rule.
I heard so many good things about Haggerty whihc is why I went with them over some of the others.

Thats whats messed up. I too was told the same thing about the two car policy, when I called on the phone because no one had responded to my online quote request. Then, several days later I get a response by email mentioning nothing about the two car policy. I got my policy with Heacock Classic, they responded, gave a great quote and I had a policy in no time. They have a full page add in Corvette Fever this month.
