Theres a 1980 L-82 on Craiglist here in Ca being sold by someone with nothing close to accurate info on the car,Ad states car has 19,000 original miles when in fact it has well over 19,000 miles.I emaailed the seller, wanting to go look at the car and seeing the the licence plate was like a punch to the jaw,I used to own this car...........It gets better. At some time in the cars life IT WAS CUT IN HALF AND WELDED BACK TOGETHER.Its got a weld bead running right through the floor and right through the T bar support,and..........Its got severe rust in the bidrcage and windshield support. The seller sent me an email stating the cars never been damaged and in fact has the low milaege. One I reliezed this was the same car, sent the seller info and he tells me it has to be a different car.Ive got a picture of the car clearly showing the licence plate.I sold the car cheap 20 years ago just to get away from it.It could be that the current owner didnt know about the prior damage,he does now.Id hate to see somebody spend good money on this car.........It is junk and no amount of money will straighten it out.
What I can't understand is how you can cut a car in half and put it back together and have it be stright?I know it's done because isn't that how they make Limo's? I'd like to know how much he's asking to? After he gives you the price ask him if Thats the price for the front or rear half.Tell him you just need the front because you need a motor
wait so california has all these strict smog laws, vehicle bumper hight laws and all this strict crap regarding vehicle safety. but you can weld 2 good ends of 2 salvaged cars into one car and legally register it and drive it?! wtf is that all about?
Two weeks after I bought this car back in 86 I noticed the door was too big for the opening so I start diggin trying to find out what was goin on so I take T-TOP trim off and find a weld bead, not good.I look under the car and find the bead along the bottom of the car through the floor pan, side to side. Then I take the windshield trim off and find rust hole big enough to stick your finger through.I was on Craigslist a few nights ago and I see this L-82,only 19,000 miles for $9.500.So I make plans to go check it then I look again and see the licence plate and the light goes off,no way.Last I heard about this car 20 years ago it had been siezed by the DEA for some reason.I just got a message from the sellers friend.Tells me he didnt know about the mileage or the damage.Thats fine as long as he passes along the correct info on this car.Id hate to see somebodys first Corvette experience turn out like mine The thief that sold me this car KNEW it was a pile, but the guy selling it now knows its a pile.Theres a big Corvette show in San Jose in week and Ill be going to find a car, this car is in the same city as the show.Ive got emails from the seller stating the car had 19,000 miles and it had to prior damage. If I ever meet the new owner Ill make sure they knew about the history on this car.Ive got an old picture of the car Ill try to post it once I get it scanned. The car in the above post on Craigslist is the car. When I emailed the guy he said he had somebody come to check it out.
