I own a 1972 coupe, and would like to determine the original car configuration (Engine, Tranny, etc). Can anyone provide info based on the VIN number. It appears that the original 1972 engine (350) has been replaced, with a 1973 (350). Any info or a location that could provide this original configuration would be appreciated. I can provide the engine VIN, date stamp, and engine block code. Please respond privately.
1 Chevrolet
Z Corvette
37 coupe (67 for convertibles)
K engine code K for base engine, L for optional LT-1, W for optional 454
S plant code for St. Louis
5 car line series code (5 for all '72s)
xxxxx consecutive unit number.
Post your VIN and your trim tag codes. Engine will also be stamped on the pad at the front of the right head. VIN will designate the original engine, but not the tranny. Original tranny will also be stamped with a VIN derivative.

I know the breakdown of the VIN, and the block number, I'm just not sure if it is the original. Here's my information:
Vin: 1Z37K2S513108 (vette, coupe, base engine,Assem. in St Louis)
Engine VIN: V0620AJF (Flint, June, 20th, 1973 350cu)
Block#: 3970010 (350cu, 185hp, vette)
Date Code: F153 (June, 15th, 1973)
Based on what I have found, it looks as though the engine has been swapped, but it just looks odd that the previous owner replaced the original with another vette engine just one year newer. Does any of this make sense? I'm the third owner and the seller stated he wasn't sure if the numbers matched (not an issue for me). Anyway, any info would be appreciated.
