Has anyone here ever cut off and replaced a rear body mount on the frame without removing the body?
If so what was the level of difficulty?
any tips or tricks would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hezzy
speaking from looking at what was on my Vette, I would guess that if the frame mounts are rotted out to the point where they need to be replaced then the body mounts also need to be replace and if that is the case then the fiberglas under the body mount is all cracked due to the bouncing around its taken cause the frame mount has been flexing.
Here is what the body mount looked like after I removed it from the body.
Here is what my body mount fiberglas looks like after I took off the metal mounts. You can see the cracks in the fiberglas.
IMHO I really think you should remove the body and verify all your mounts and the fiberglas. Its a LOT of work but not doing it right will probably end up in the #4 mounts eventually shattering and then you will have a nasty big repair.

If you are talking about the mount attached to the frame, chances are that the top of the mount is the only thing that is rotted out. You can cut off the top of the mount, weld on a plate and drill a new hole for the mount. Saves all the work of grinding down the old welds and locating the new mount properly on the frame.

The description above is how I repaired the #4 mount on my car. This was done before replacing the body support and body mount bolts and shims. All was done with the body on. I cut a 1 1/8 hole in my new top plate before welding it in place on the frame.
