I am in the market for new seat foam and was curious whether it makes any difference where I get it. I would not be surprised to learn most of it is coming from the same manufacturer. Anyone know who makes it?
I got mine from Willcox since they were the only ones who would sell me just the bottom foam for one seat. Yes, I'm cheap. Sorry but I don't recall seeing a manufacturing label anywhere though. I can tell you that new foam and welding up the busted seat frame changed driver position from looking over the steering wheel like an old grandma to where I only clear the roof by about an inch now.
Got mine from The Last Detail. Cheapest price back then. Looked like seconds because the foam had small air pockets. Formed, shaped, and fit correctly...but minor internal flaws. I didn't care...my azz is not that particular!!!

In many Corvette seats you have TWO types of seat foam. The main body foam cushion is inside the seat/back seat covers and isn't usually in bad shape [because the seat cover blocks the sun for it]. It can be bad, if you've spilled something damaging into it, but I wouldn't just assume that it needs replacing. However, the seat cover channel foam (cushioned ribbing in the back/seat) is actually sewn into the cover itself; this usually rots and becomes yellow dust. To repair that, you have to replace the seat covers OR get to work to clean the dust out of the channels and re-pack them with scrim foam. [I've done that and it's a PITA...but I do have the newest looking ORIGINAL seat covers in Phoenix, AZ]. My point is that you really need to disassemble the seats to know whether you need new main body foam sections....or not.

I would otherwise agree, but not in my case. The existing upholstery and seat foam are original '68. All I have to do is sit down to know both need replacing. Upholstery going over the new foam is new and has the requisite sewn in pieces.

Your car may have had a lot more use than mine...I don't know. Mine is a '71 with almost 200K miles. Everything that could wear has been replaced with original GM/Chevy/Corvette parts. The seat foam in the surface channels was nothing but yellow dust; the body foam was like new. Anyway, good luck with your project. I'm sure you'll have it looking like new when you're done.
