This must have been asked before but I didn't find it in my search...
I'm going to look at a '69 that has a passenger side mirror. Most '69's I've seen don't have it...and my '71 doesn't either. Is this an aftermarket thing? Not that i plan on having anything judged but just wondering if that's something that you'd lose points on by NCRS standards.
Look at it this way: Loose a few points or Loose your life.
Helps tremendously to be able to see, especially with people driving around today that care less about their car let alone one that means so much to you.
Plus you are encapsulated in Fibergalss, then a steel tank most likely with airbags all over.
The added mirror is a plus regardless if an option.
That's an NCRS problem. If they would deduct points for having a GM "approved", GM identical, GM dealer-installed mirror on the right side of your Corvette [which, by the way, enhances safety of the vehicle and any passengers], SHAME ON THEM. {Just my 2 cents....}
If you did have a passenger side mirror, the NCRS deduction would simply be one or two points (out of 4500) for having a couple of holes in the body work.
Good to know. Not planning on getting anything judged...and even if I was I agree safety does come before a few points. Although I don't have one on my 71 and it hasn't bothered me. I did notice it on the 69 and thought it was a question worth asking. I'm not one to obsesses about a car being 100% "correct"...but I like to stay as stock as possible and I'm always curious about what is "correct" for the car. Something as minor as this I wouldn't lose sleep over if it isn't stock.
I added one on mine for safety reasons along with interlocking motor mounts. I have made several compromises with my Oct 68 built 69, going with the 68/early 69 original stuff even though it was superseded later in the production year. Mirrors that match the left one are available from all Corvette parts suppliers.
NCRS is what it is. Losing a few points here and there doesn't devalue your car. It simply gives you a document that says if I changed these things I would have a car like the ones presented on the Chevrolet showroom back then. I have added several non-original items to my car because I wanted them, leather seats, power brakes and the ZL-1 stripe among them. I take the point deductions because I like and want the car like it is.
If you merge right and hit something, you'll wish you had put a mirror over there.
Let's see.... I order the Corvette at the dealership, I order the "add-on" mirror from the dealership, it is installed before I ever sign the paperwork for the car....but it's not "original". Right.....

All I can say is, who cares, it's your car "do what you want to do"
Template comes with the mirror when you order the passenger side kit. All mounting hardware comes with it to include the well nuts. Use a sharp 3/8" bit and be sure to only drive it in just enough to make the holes.

I just used a regular old drill bit for the holes. The template came with the mirror. When ordering, make sure to ask if the template comes with the mirror.
Passenger side mirror was a dealer accessory during the '68 thru '72 years and probably longer. NCRS judges the car as it left St. Louis assembly plant, NOT as it left the Chevrolet dealership.
Bloomington Gold judges the car as it left the dealership. Two different criteria.
I have a passenger mirror on one of my '71's, added after the assembly plant, I wish it wasn't there, but I will live with it.

Hey, i'll trade you the door off my '73, it doesn't have one, and I want one.
don't know what the judges would say about a '73 Elkhart Green door though...

Sorry, but not correct. NCRS flight judging requires that the car be presented with normal new car prep done at the dealership, minus owner or dealer inspired options. This is mentioned several times in every judging manual.
