Default Can this be done?

Do I have to use a different carb. in order to put a open air cleaner on my 77 corvette. There are a few tubes that connect to my air cleaner assembly now. The open sided (there's probably a correct name for it) air cleaner doesn't have those connections. Anyone have any ideas. As you can tell I don't know jack about engines. Thanks

The "tubes" on your snorkle air cleaner are for the warm-air system at start up...an emissions thing. When you start up cold, the sensor on the air cleaner is cold and it closes the damper in the snorkle. This forces any incoming air to be warmed over the headers and brought in through the header tube. You don't need any of that for normal operation. Just remove the air cleaner, the heat tube and the manifold cover (if you can). If it were me, I'd keep the stuff to be able to go back to stock if need be...or sell it on eBay [there's always someone who wants to go back in time].
