Default Corvette starting....

Hey Guys,

My 81 corvette, with a holley 650 electric chock is acting a little weird on cold start. It is usually just a weekend driver and when I try and start it after a week of sitting. I usually give it two pumps on the accelerator and let my foot off, and the engine will crank, only problem is it will stop all of a sudden, like there is too much compression. I will turn the ignition key a couple of more times and put my foot on the accelerator the entire way down and it will eventually start, followed by a big cloud and the smell of gas from the exhaust the cloud is not blue and my compression is good. After that I can run the car and do my errands, and what have you, and the car will start up fine....but if I let it set for 3 or 4 hours or more it starts to show the same symptoms. I thought it might be the float levels in the carb. If it is I think the adjustments for the holley are on top, Any ideas would be appreciated..

Zach

Check the choke. when cold the blade should be about 3/8" open. If it's more or less then adjust accordingly.
