71 Vette Throttle Cable
My '71 throttle cable finally frayed and snapped a week ago. Since it was scheduled for inspection later that week I decided to have it towed directly to the local garage instead of cancelling my inspection because I wouldn't be able to get to it until later.
Well, they ordered the Throttle cable from a reputable place and installed it but the cable is at least 1/4'' too short causing it to idle 2,500 rpm instead of 600. They offered to adjust the carb and I told them it's the cable not the carb. So they said they'd work on it for awhile. This did not agree with me so I drove it home and hope to get started on it this weekend. I took a quick look at it and can't find an adjustment. I'm hoping it's something simple but I'd appreciate some expert advice from the group!
Any suggestions?

I tried that and it helped. I can't straighten it anymore and it hangs up at 1,000. It won't naturally come down to 600 unless I manually push/pull the linkage at the carb. I'm thinking I may have routed it improperly and the cable isn't moving smoothly. Can anybody explain how to route it or provide a picture? It would be greatly appreciated!

I searched 71 vettes on ebay and looked at the pictures. They showed the garage misrouted the cable and so did I. I routed according to the pictures and the cable wasn't hanging up anymore but it still wouldn't idle where it should. I slightly bent the bracket that holds the cable at the carb and also filed down the grommet that holds the cable to that bracket. It now consistently idles properly. This is an FYI and I hope it helps somebody else.
