For a manual transmission, the 3-4 gear shift rod, in the shifter mechanism, is about 1 inch longer in a 68 car than in a 69 and up car. More specifically, the 68 C3 shares the same shifter rods as a C2.
I spent about 3 hours last night laying under my 68 replacing an errant 69 3-4 shifter rod with a 68 shifter rod. My transmission shift alignment problems immediately went away. (Well not an entire 3 hours laying under the car, the three hours includes times for refreshment breaks!)
I bought my 68 shifter rod from Volunteer Vette. Before I bought it (I wasn't too sure if my too short rod was a 69 or a 68 rod) Volunteer Vette sent someone out to their ware house to verify the vintage of the longer rod. ..Thanks for the service.
