I have a room mate with an 86 mustang GT with 3.73 gears, short throw shifter, underdrive pullys, Headers, and off road H pipe. The car stock has 200hp and now is probly pushing 250 same as mine but doesn't toch my torque
I have a 1974 L-82 with 250hp & 280 ft torque, a K&n air filter, shift kit, 3.55 gears, and gymkhana suspension. Pleas be honest who would win if I had my car with me at college and could put it to the test.
I've owned a 87 5.0 w/5spd and crankerd it out a couple of times stop ligth to stop light. now own a '73 L48. Would be close. My advice, get a 400hp crate from year one and remove the mystery. Cars weigh about the same.
Had an 86 with some light mods...They felt fast because of the gearing but they were the dogs of EFI Mustangs. He can barely use that 1st gear with 373s. Go run him
I,had an 80 Vette and ran against a lot of 5.0 Mustangs By the time they got control of wheel spin in 1st gear I was 1/2 way down the line.Different story with a good driver.

You will see his tail lights at the end of the 1/4 but it would be close. His stang is lighter too. How many miles on each engine? Yours could be faster if you did the same upgrades as he has done.
My wife has a bone stock 92 5.0 with 250 000 km on it. It runs 15.3 with a 2.73 rear end at 2600 ft elevation. She beat a 72 SB auto vette at the track that ran 15.5.
he said his torque was way above the stangs though, i thought torque won races not HP, yes? no?
Miles
The product of the torque and RPM equals horsepower,, so Torque is allready factored into horsepower. It's not just the peak rating of an engine,, it's the entire curve that matters or esp 2500 to 5200 for a standard V8,, what you pull through in a race. If the sum of your HP through this band is higher then the sum of the other guys through his band, everything else being equal, your gonna get there first,,ie,, Win. Even if the other guy has a higher "peak" HP rating. there you go.

Torque is a force which is not a function of time.. When you talk about speed, you need to take the time factor into account.
Horsepower is proportional to torque*RPM and is a function of time(which comes from RPM). HP rules the speed.
Sorry, but i think the stang would beat you good.Your year vette was really under powered, gas crunch. The stang was under rated i think,i was told hp ratings was taken diffrently.I have a 93 lightning pickup truck and it was rated at 285 hp but it was the fastest production truck made at that time.It would beat the ss chevy 454 big block truck.Your car needs some mods, make it easy and buy some NOS
Mustangs ,lightnings came from the factory with ford after market high performance parts on them, right from the factory.Yours came with But you can change that
