If he can drive...and it's a healthy one... he'll probably beat you. The '86 wasn't the best combo of parts and was a lot slower than the '87 and ups. It was the first year of the EFI in 49 states and had funky heads.

My '88 ran a 13.97 on it's first trip to the track with only mods being bumping timing and removing air silencer.

I ported stock heads, added 3.55 gears, gutted converters and ran 13.20's on McCreary dirt tracker tires. Slicks brought 12.90's.

The 3.73's will require a good driver unless he's got sticky tires. I used to spank many of them!

What year did ford start the gt40 setup? High performance intake and heads with factory headers?Somewhere around that year i thought.

While you guys are revving each other off, some old lady in an E class Mercedes, petting her poodle, doing her makeup, and talking on her cellphone will blow you both away

GT40 package only came on 93 Cobra. 86 was first year for EFI and had the truck heads but they still could be made to run. Really depends on driver. If he knows how to launch and shift i think he is going to take you. Our Vettes are for cruising not really for racing, i fyou wanna race start saving for a nice crate motor and beefed up drivetrain parts.

Always wondered why theywere slower..I used to get killed by any GT newer than mine once I hit 2nd, could never figure that one out. Oh well I was 22, the car was shiney and loud, that was enough.
