Default Got the rigth solid mounts. VERY impressed !

Well, a week ago I tried to install some solid engine mounts I had ordered for my Corvette. The packaging was correct but the mounts inside were too tall which would have raised the engine mounting positions up by a full inch.

I checked with a few places and found the mounts to be packaged wrong. I contacted the seller and he found that over half of his batch were all wrongly packaged and he promptly sent me a new set free of charge.

This morning I got the chance to finish the installation and take the car out for a test spin. I must say I am very impressed. The throttle seems a lot more crisp and responsive and I can tell the front suspension seems stiffer with less body roll.

Yes, before some of you ask, I could feel the slightest change in vibration through the pedal and wheel but it was negligible at best and didn't detract from the overall feel of the change.

Considering you can get a set for around $35 shipped it's a fantastic upgrade. I went ahead and installed new bolts but it's a cheap upgrade.

To anyone considering this, give it a good thought. I'm very happy with it and I have seen a lot of other happy members with solid engine mounts.

Got any pics of these puppies installed?

I went with energy suspension poly mounts.
I thought about the solid but the rumored vibration detered me.
Good to hear it isn't that big of a deal in your case.

I thought about it but it's really nothing to make a spectacle of. Just metal plates with ears that bolt to the block and the mount arm.

I think one would want to weld in some gussets for anything more powerful. Vibrations can really crack a weak weld in a frame and while I was not worried with my meager motor...a plant like yours might reek a little havoc on your mounting arms.

Those suckers are heavy. I don't think even Norval gusseted his solid mounts, and he has a wicked engine.

Glad ya found the right ones. Moroso usually does things right, it's surprising to hear that they mis-packaged so many mounts.

did you go with the solid transmission mount as well or are you just running the solid engine mounts and a poly tranny mount? Looks like a good upgrade for the money but i figured I'd check out the tranny one as well. It says "for race use only" on the summit web-site. I'm thinking the extra vibration could hurt transmission life? thoughts?

Personally, I would never use solid mounts. They will very frequently cause stress cracks to develop in the block in the area of the original motor mounts. The cylinder walls can also become distorted, causing irregular wear on the skirts of the pistons.

I would use either poly mounts or a front-mounted motor support plate if I was looking for more rigidity.

Rigid front mounts are not really a good idea unless the trans is also solid. Motor or engine plates are the best way to mount racing engines. In a stock Vette they are not necessary and as you know even with L88 or LS7 power. The aluminum transmission case is a weak link in rigid applications thats why motor plates are used.

The many guys I spoke to this about both around here and on this forum all said they left the trans mount rubber on purpose when switching to solid engine mounts and many of these guys have been using them for years with no problems.

I don't mind changing the transmission to a solid if I need to but I was not told I would have any problems with the transmission because of the solid engine mounts.
