Default Newbie Help Help Help

Hello Everyone, I am about to purchase my first vette. I am very excited as I feel I found the perfect one for my needs .There are three items which I am concerned about. I would appreciate all your expertise.

1. when you close the driver side door, the window rubs on the right side pretty bad. It sound like the window is going to snap off. There is little play in the door (hinges tight). The door does line up perfect with the body. Should I be concerned? Easy fix?

2. the hood sits 3/4 inch lower on both sides evenly from the front fenders. Can this be adjusted? It's really only noticeable the most when in the drivers seat.

3. leak in the power steering. Owner says he has to top it up once a month and uses a full container. I want to address this ASAP. Is it an expensive fix? Worst case senerio would be appreciated.

I want to thank everyone in advance for their input. I would REALLY appreciate everyones advice.

Anthony

If those are your only issues your doing good, all that can be fixed for around $100 to $400.
The door has play in it because the hinge pins and bushings are worn, its a $20 kit. Once you do that you can adjust the door for best fit/gap and then adjust the window for best fit, that will take most of a good saturday.
The steering leak can be several things, but on this stuff on an unkown car I prefer the shotgun approach, replace the steering hoses (the return most like the leaker) and rebuild or replace the steering control valve. A rebuilt unit is around $140 and a new one $240. The kit is $29 I think. If the pump is leaking, the kit for that is under $20
The hood can be aligned with shim blocks
Welcome to the forum and good luck

Welcome. I have the same problem with my steering. Not sure if its the lines or the valve. Im going to do the lines first. And if its still leaking i would think its the valve. All the vendors have everything you need. From just the lines to a complete set up, lines and valve.
So good luck and keep us informed.

If that was the only problems my vette has, than i would be extremley happy. as is was mentioned most of those are easy fixes. You will also have to remember that there will be issues with the car that you wont knwo about till you have her a few weeks

Thanks for the advice. The door seemed to close and align properly. The window, however was out of wack and was rubbing. Is it simply a matter of adjusting the window???

sounds to me like the door can be adjusted, but the hood well I think everybody can agree c3's were built like chit. Chevorlet actually had a code you could call in when ordering the car brand new and get the car with just primer on the car because paint jobs were that bad. Nothing will line up on the car. But withall that said welcome to the C3 world.
