Default 70 wiper door

My 70 wiper door is not coming up fully. If I raise it the balance of the way by hand, it will close fully when I close the switch. Are these known to need lubrication or do you think I have another issue.

Thanks !!

Do you have a mighty vac vacuum pump? You can buy one at autozone or any parts place. They are very useful with the amount of vacuum operated stuff on our cars. You could pull the hoses of of the wiper door actuator and apply vacuum to either port and see if you can make the door raise. If the door does raise, you know you have a good wiper door actuator. If it does not, you may have a leaky vacuum line or leaky control valve.

Here is a link that will help troubleshoot some of the parts of the vacuum system. Look for the Vacuum Trouble link on the upper left.

Eddie on a second note, when I pull the bypass for the headlights, one opens after about 60 or so seconds and then the second after another 60 or so seconds. Does this give you more info on centralizing my problem? Thanks

Sometimes the white vacuum filter splits apart and causes slow operation of the vacuum operated components. Check this filter (may be tucked under your air cleaner or in the open above your manifold) and replace it if cracked or leaking.

70454, Thanks for the info. Is there a "formal" name for this part as I am attempting to look it up for potential replacement and can't find it.

Check the adjustment rod on the canister. Sometimes they loosen up.

Lubricating the wiper door bushings can sometimes be a help. Or they may be worn out. BE VERY CAREFUL if you do any "work" to the wiper door. The shouldered bolts attaching the door are very easily broken and it's a real pain to repair. Put liberal amounts of liquid penetrant on those bolts and let is set overnight... and repeat a time or two. Then use very little force to back them out. Breaking these bolts is a very common problem and a PITA to fix.
