Hey guys...I'm planning on dying my 81's camel interior to grey. Anybody done so in the past? Looking for feedback on good products and quanity needed to do the whole job. doors/dash/seats,carpet. Pics appreicated! Thanks.
I've seen it done and it looks good for a while. Its a quick fix that doesn't last. If your going to keep the car get new interior parts in the color you want or stay w/the color it is now and repair what needs to be repaired. post pics
I've dyed two interiors and have had mixed results. Cleaned both extremely well before dying, and have tried two different brands of dye. I got great results spraying directly onto the piece with the same color using the Corvette America brand dye. ('77 Smoke) Stuck like glue for yrs.
My '72 was saddle and I wanted black. I went with SEM this time but first used the recomended SEM primer in the suggested way, then sprayed the black dye. I can scrape it off aggressivly with my fingernail!!!! Black was chipping off the corners while installing the dash! I would NOT use that primer again.
Single most important tip......CLEAN...then...CLEAN some more before spraying.

If I will ever want to change my interior color, I would replace the seat covers, center console, shifter console, and the carpet, and dye everything else. I thinks thats a good compromise since the most wear-able parts are the mentioned above.
I used SEM automotive interior dye in my 68 and had no problems with it. It's going on twenty years now and, while the interior needs another redo, the SEM has held up well. No complaints.
Two words of advice: purchase new carpet in your new color. Interior dye isn't meant for carpet despite the claims of some of the manufacturers.
80-82 leather upholstery has a protectorant on it from the factory. You have to thoroughly clean the upholstery and get rid of this stuff before shooting your new color.
I have done everything but the seats and carpet with good results. I would recommend getting some good Dupont dye that is what I have found works best. To do it that way you will need an air compressor and gun though. Imoho I would stay away from the seats
thanks guys. I've got cloth some ecklers brand cloth replacements that are gray. I bought them off some guy who had them in a box for 10 years...just like new! So the seats I can probably skip. Perhaps I'll just buy new carpet and dye the rest. I just ordered white faced guages and a carbon fiber dash kit. So i've got a big winter project ahead. Thanks for the feedback.
