Could you guys please help me with some options. Im not pulling the front clip off and I dont know how to get down in there. I was wondering if cutting off some of the fender would work instead of taking the whole front end off. Fortunatly everything else looks fairly ok. Whaccha think?. I plan on keeping this thing in the garage for the rest of my life. It will never again see rain. Of course humidity wont reverse the rot factor.... Thanks in advance...
Thats what sucks about Vettes. You think with the fiberglass body, you have an indestructable car for life. But that friggin rust will find its way to the non-fiberglass parts, sure as ****!!!!
Ouch - I replaced my windshield frame with a donor but this one looks very bad. I have a book that shows cutting the tops off the fenders to make repairs in this area. If you can weld you can do this but it is going to take a lot of time and patience.
How are your body mount areas behind the kick panels and in front of the rear wheels? Also, what do your rocker channels look like? My bet is you have issues waiting to be discovered in those areas as well.

Good luck
Thats what is suprising. Everything else looks normal. Theres some moderate surface rusting but not any more than other 68's I have seen.. Maybe there was a greater than normal failure right here. The other pillar post it perfectly fine.
Does anyone have a link to a page or a picture of where they cut the fender. Also I guess when I get to paint and body the body guy will be able to get the fender patched back up??. Thanks.
Not sure how to just cut holes in the fender. Here are some pics of what we did - cut the front clip (and other parts) off to expose the whole piece. Also a couple pics of the work done, we will be putting the glass back together and the guy doing it swears you will never see where it was done. Based on other work he has done for me including this dismantle I believe him. Took about an hour to cut off and he claims it is much easier to put back together as all cuts are in areas that will not be directly seen when done.
pieces done and primed
other pics available. Some of the pieces you need are now available from CSC - a lot easier then some of the fabraction work you will need to do or there is a bird cage for sale on the for sale forum that you may consider.
I cleaned it up. Got rid of the rust at the base. Wasnt as bad as I thought it might be. I have a pillar comming to replace it from the base up through the turn. I think theres enough room to weld in a patch there at the base.. Any thoughts?.
