Default Sidepipe confusion...

I've been looking into Hooker sidepipes for my car, and I'm totally lost. There's so many different kinds.

Chrome plated, Ceramic Coated, JetHot (whatever that is?). What exactly are all those, and which ones won't turn blue and gold (I hate that!)

I've heard good and bad things about Spiral Baffel and Glasspack mufflers.

Can someone set this all straight?

Do a search under Advanced and click Archive for sidepipes. This topic has been address numerous times and most of your questions could be answered.

I am currently running Jet-Hot Sterling Silver coated Hooker headers and sidepipes with the STS stainless steel spiral baffle inserts. I love the finish on the pipes and the sound of the baffles. Many other members are using the chrome Hookers and swear by them, but I have not seen any that do not blue of a short period of time.

Here is a link to STS Baffles and a sound clip:
http://www.spiralturbobaffles.com/streetrod.html

And a link to Jet-Hot:
http://www.jet-hot.com/Pages/coatings.html

I did a search for you and came up with the following links:

I kinda figured that's the way it was. I hate blue/gold pipes.

I am in the process of installing hooker stainless steel side pipes with my own stainless steel spiral inserts. But I am into stainless steel.

If your chrome pipes are turning blue, there's something wrong with your engine.

I've had 2 sets of chrome Hookers, I switched from a small block to a big block. Neither set ever turned blue.

If you ever saw the chrome pipes up against one of the other finishes, you would pick the chrome.

Anyone have pics of the JetHot Sterling finish on Hookers? How about a video, maybe with the STS baffles. I've heard the STS sound file, but curious what your setups sound like.

I don't know. I like it loud, and I mean LOOOUUUUUUUUUDDD! I'm running dual chambered exhaust right now, and it's fricken mean sounding. If I could get away with it, I'd run open headers, but that might upset too many people. I don't know how good of an idea the videos give me, but the STS Baffles sound almost too quiet. Maybe glasspack inserts?

But I definately like the JetHot Sterling finish

Thanks for the pic and video rosslato. Those look awesome. Have you installed on your car yet? The STS baffles sure sound good. I'm pretty sure that's the route I'm going.

I think there is a center cap that you can drill out to adjust the volume. The bigger the hole, the louder the sound. Maybe someone who has done it can give you some feedback. Good luck with your choice.

That looks stunning!

My intent was to get the ceramic coated ones to get the heat out of the engine compartment. Not sure how the jet hot compares to ceramic from a heat standpoint, but it looks just as good as chrome.

Jet Hot is a ceramic coating. It is just a much better ceramic coating than the crap Hooker uses.

BTW, mine are also Jet Hot Sterling coated. rosslato polishes his up nice before install but mine still look good. They are a nice match for polished aluminum wheels.

I can't give an opinion on jet hot's other coatings but their sterling silver finish sucks big time. I had mine recoated once and it still rusts'. Keep in mind that my car is not a garage queen, sometimes it gets wet and stays out overnight occasionally.

Remove the caps and the STS baffles sound killer
