The only thing that bugs me about my 81' is the huge gaudy antenna sticking out. I don't want to kill my radio but I want to get rid of the antenna if I can. Is there any kits out there to relocate the antenna, or can I relocate somewhere internally? Thanks.
Don't know if this would apply to you exactly but, I have a'75 and while
the antenna is still on the car it got disconnected by misteak. Guess
what FM radio still works great - so does CD. You may not even need
it - it's like the engine compartment chrome over the distributor - that
was only needed to listen to AM radio.
In my area I do not get a lot of good radio stations therfore I use the tape player mostly. But I wanted to retain my radio and like you I don't like the antenna sticking up. When I redid my interior I bought a short flexible aftermarket antenna and mounted it inside the A-piller on the passenger side. It seems to work as well as the old antenna.
Sounds good, ya I don't think Im going to go the "power" route, I just don't want the darn thing at all! I have one of the smaller flexible ones on my other car but I want that clean look. I am considering just taking it off but then you gota deal with a hole in the body! I just seem to notice it alot more on mine than when I look at other cars, maybe Im just picky.

Thats probably because your antenna is angled towards the rear (according to the pic in your profile) when it's supposed to stand straight up like the one in this pic.
I installed this one and really like it. It's adhesive backed, and I stuck it up in the passenger corner top right. It's very hard to see even sitting in the car. I ran the wire down behind the A-pillar trim and behind the dash where it connects to a 12V source and the standard antenna jack.
In my '81 the power antenna motor seems to be in a bad location. When I bought the car the guy gave me the original power antenna which didn't work, and the car had a working power antenna on it. While driving from Oregon to South Florida, many long hours on the road, the "new" antenna died. I'm confident it's because it's close enough to the exhaust that it just overheats and goes out. I do like having a power antenna because it retracts when not in use it doesn't detract from the looks (although it's stuck 3/4 of the way up at the moment). I'm not sure if it's supposed to have a heat shield, or if I can come up with one, but until I figure that out or go with a non-power antenna I'm living with a non-functional power antenna.
Thanks Durango, and everyone. Lots of great feedback. I really like that one you sent in the link. That looks perfect for what I am trying to do. But one I take my old one off what do I do about the hole? Im guessing that Its gona be a little harder than just a patch. As for the reason why mine is angled like that I have no idea. It def looked better straight up and down like that.
