Has anyone removed the doors above the storage bin, and battery compartment to put in speakers? (I know they would have to be removable for the battery) But can anyone think of a reason this would not work? And if anyone has done it do you have any recommondations?
What kind of speakers? Highs? Mids? Lows? Directionality would be a problem for mids and highs, and lows would have no immediate surfaces for sounding.
It would be for mids and highs, i just really do not want boxs in the back.
Okay, next question. Will you have speakers in the front too or just these rear compartment speakers?
Generally the sound confuses your brain if the strongest sounds are from the back, let alone the only sounds.
It would be like going to a symphony and sitting backwards. IF you have front speakers too, you want to make sure these rear speakers are weaker in signal or volume.
Either way, front or just rear, do your best to aim them to the air space that would be between two passenger's heads.
Right now I only have the factory speakers in the dash. I considered remplacing them, but didnt want to tear into that. I may put some down in the kick panels by your feet if you think that would make better sound.

To be honest, a good set of coaxial speakers in the kick panels would sound a lot better then the dash speakers and the rear speakers.
It's a very simple operation if you don't mind cutting holes in the kick panels.
If you would like help, with any aspect of the project, just let me know and I'll walk you through it.
What head unit do you have or are you upgrading that?
I just put the new one in. It is one of the custom autosound units that fits into the original holes.
What do the speakers mount to behing the kick panels? Do you have to drill holes to mount them or is there something already there?
The easiest way is to cut out a hole for the speaker in the kick panel, and mount the speaker to the kick panel itself with an exposed speaker grill. The kick panel can support the speaker just fine and the magnet and basket of most round speakers will fit in the body mount pocket behind the kick panel.
