Powdercoat Prep
I bought an eastwood powdercoating kit and have a sandblast cabinet. I have really fine glass beads which remove rust and polish the metal on parts to a shine. I also have black magic that I use in my cabinet on really rusty parts. Which is better for the powdercoat - bead blasting them or sandblasting them?

I have used both with great results. I use glass bead on what I would call frail parts - alternator housings and the black beauty on heavier parts - control arms, strut brackets.
I have an empty 5 gallon bucket under the cabinet. When I want to change I just drain the glass media, grab the bucket of the black beauty & throw it into the cabinet. Takes a couple minutes.

I like to use microfiber dust cloths to wipe the parts down after blasting. I also try to coat them as soon as possible after the blast job to keep down flash rusting and other possible contamination. One cast iron part that I powder coated required three trips into the cabinet because the too-clean metal kept forming some light flash rust before I could get around to coating it. Stupid humid weather...
