Got a problem and looking for a creative solution. On my '71 the metal shifter console does not screw into the lower center console housing. I looked underneath the top plate....and where it is supposed to screw into the lower console is cracked off on all four corners. Any ideas for how to fix this? I don't want to spend 150 bucks on a new console housing...looking for a creative way to work with what i have.
The kit is also sold by all the major vendors, so shop around, Also, the directions call for you to use a "hot glue" to secure the metal tabs. My experience was that this did not hold at all. I used JB Weld to secure the tabs, it worked much better, good luck, john
just use four long 29 cent J nuts from the hardware store. Just keep the screw pulled up tight while installing it and the nuts will catch under the edge of the console. No need to glue in the nuts.
i fixed mine with epoxy resin and a little chopped cloth , just mix up a small batch ,and tape up top corners apply batch from underside, next morning you can install top console and drill pilot holes
