Radio Question

GOT NEW BATTERY A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, got in car after about 3 days since last drive and bat. was dead. i guess from leaving radio on. question is should radio work with key in off position? MINE DOES.

Is your head unit stock or after market?

Some radios are designed to have both 12V constant for memory and 12V switched for normal operation.

If the head unit was wired to only 12V constant source then the internal amps will be pulling current the entire time no matter key position.

I will answer for him (NO!) Only with the key in the on position or in access position for a factory radio.

I am not familiar enough with the stock radios but it could be a crossed connection or a malfunction in the radio.

Either way, to stop the drain until you figure it out you can pull the radio fuse to preserve your battery life.

1982.......stock radio works only with key in 'On' or 'Accessory' position. Certainly is very simple wiring to change but that's how it is from the factory.......Mark

THANKS ALL, SOMEONE MUST OF WIRED IT TO A FUSE THAT DOESNT NEED KEY ON LIKE LIGHTER. IT DONT DRAIN BAT IF I REMEMBER TO SHUT RADIO OFF. IM GONNA TrY TO TRACK WIRE ,THANKS
