If it is the correct engine, the vehicle serial number will be stamped on the pad (located on pasenger side, in front, where the head and block meet).
Also - there is another 6-7 character stamping, usually to the left of (or above) the serial number, it begins with "TO". The "TO" stands for Tonowanda engine plant where all big blocks were built.
There are also a three other characters (suffix code) in the stamping that designate the displacement and transmission type.
1. CPH = 454 manual transmission
2. CPJ = 454 auto transmission
Transmission:
On the transmission case, passenger side, where the mid case joins the rear case - the serial number is also stamped.
Rear End:
On the bottom, center, where the rear cover joins the rear end carrier, the serial number should be stamped.
Hope this helps some ..

It takes a lot of information and pictures to even guess what the value of a particular car might be. I think it's wise to have a person who knows what you're looking for and is very knowledgable about the type of car you're looking at do an inspection of the car. $35 K is a whole lot of money and you should know just what you're getting for your cash.

Alan
