Take a look at this one. What is it worth, it doesn't get close to reserve, seller has emailed me asking for an offer.

looks like underneath needs some cleaning up. if frame and birdcage are solid i would say around 20k. also would look into crack where serial # is on engine. as i look closer i dont think its a crack but just the casting shadow.

Looks pretty good
I have a 68 coupe , had it since 1972, and I like what I saw.
Nothing on this car seemed to jump out at me and say "Walk away"
Just my 2 cents, but looks like it would be a good purchase.
Look for rust on the rear frame kickups and on the birdcage if he will let you pull off the interior foot well trim pieces
Good luck

I agree with the others. Nothing stands out that tells me to "walk away". If the frame and birdcage check out and are solid, make him an offer around 20K, less if possible. Some other notes and observations:

1. This an early production '68 (Unit 1876, Birthday October 12th) and has the drivers side mirror mounted 4 inches more to the front of the car then later production '68's.

2. No headlight shields? Why? Was the car in an accident, or were they removed? Also the grill edges on the front griill should be painted silver for '68's and early '69's, on this car they are not. Either the paint wore off, or the grills were replaced.

3. It appears that there is no plastic air dam/chin spoiler mounted on the front lower valance. Early '68's did not have them originally, but a TSB was issued to install the air dam later on in the production year. Not sure if this car ever had one or not. But seeing that there are no headlight shields, unpainted grill edges, and a no air dam, one may conclude that the front end may have been damaged at some point... or not. Hard to tell for sure.

4. It appears that the wiper/headlight override switches are located to the right of the steering column. Another early '68 thing. Later production '68's and the subsequent years mounted those switches directly under the steering column.

If you get a chance to check it out in person, by all means do so. All in all, the car looks good and is part of the first production run of '68's.

Good luck!

427, I didn't pick any of that up. I will tell you all this if it helps. I was high at 17600 on the first go around, never made 17 on the second. I offered 20 & he rejected me so quick it surprised me.

I'll keep pecking on this.

Thanks

There are some stellar deals to be had on Ebay so do not go too high for the car. I just picked up this 71 matching number low mileage 454 car for $24,600. It was a no reserve auction - and it is a VERY clean restoration. The ONLY thing it does not have compared to the other car is a 4 speed (I was easily able to console myself about that for the price - I figure if it really bugs me I can either sell it or convert it over to a manual)

Better pics on it when it gets here next week.

So remeber he NEEDS your money you do nto NEED his car.

Ride height looks perfect on that car. Very nice. You should purchase and enjoy.

i also bought a bb coupe from ebay, sight unseen from a reputable dealer from kentucky. i was also concerned it was an auto but after getting im very happy with it. buy it now was 35k ,i got it for 30k. its in excellent shape #s matching and you can eat off underneath. but to get back to thread if this car is as good as it looks in person i would go higher. its cheaper in the long run to buy a car needing very little than buying a fixer upper unless your able to do work yourself.

From what I can tell in the pictures it looks like a nice driver and should be worth between 20 and 25. I would do an in person inspection of the frame, paint, body, #'s, etc. A decent 68 convertible, small block, has to be worth that kind of money unless it has paint/frame/numbers issues. Good luck

Hey guys, I'm no expert, but was there supposed to be an overflow tank on the 300 hp cars? (Tach pic indicates 300 hp)

Hmmm, glad to see I'm not the only one who likes the pics. Anyone close enough to take a really good look for rust & numbers issues?

I speak with the dealer again next week. Salesman has already been called off and his boss has returned my call.

Thanks

They declined $22K, not sure where to go now. Thoughts? Anyone know Joe, the dealership or seen this car?

Thanks

If you have a "good feeling" about the car then do not let a couple of thousand stop you. The general consensus seems to be that you are still getting a good deal at around 25, so why not come back a little more and see what he says?

Interesting conversation with Joe. They use eBay as their marketing arm. Said they sell about 30 a month, mostly by emailing the bidders.
I started at 17.6, they at 26.6. Were now at 22 & 24.6, I can't get out there for another 10 days, but I might just have to.

Still would appreciate it if someone in the area had the time to take a look.

You guys must know best, a little too much rust for me, I think.

Also why do the bells and whistles go off when I read 4 speed automatic in the description? It would be best to have someone look at the car very closely.

With the above except I think the headlight shields are there but were painted yellow (should be black). The other thing I noticed is that the convertible top looked lumpy on the rear drivers side like it had either a latching problem or one the bows might be broken. Only one undercarriage pic??
Looks to be a nice car but pictures can be deceiving. Have a professional check it out before any money changes hands.
Good Luck.

Also, no power brakes (no booster).

The rust comcerns me. Take a close look at the picture of the VIN tag on the pillar.

I am no expert, but doesn't the door pictured in #40-41 have a lot of rust around the outer edge and picture 41-42 shows the quarter trim missing from the driver's side and another picture 52-53 shows the passenger side half off. There appears to be a lot of rust and pitting under the radio in the picture above photo49.

Just some thoughts from an uninterested observer.
