Default Help decode engine cylinder head numbers

I'm trying to decode my numbers on my 327 cylinder heads. There are two different casting numbers which seem strange to me.

3917281 G58
3917291 G68

I was able to find 3917291 but unabale to find information on the other. I have a 68. Thanks in advance

I think if you look again really close, you'll see that what you think is an "8" is acually a "9" on the first head number. They are hard to read sometimes.

It's really hard to tell. It is probably a "9" but it doesn't look as complete as the other side. Is there such a head with an "8" in it.

3917281 Double hump head: I have one of these too. It is the right head on my 327-300 68 Corvette. The motor is around a July 68 build. My left head is 3917291. The later number is listed but like you I haven't found documentation on the first head number. Contrary to a comment you got about misreading the number, these are casting numbers and the right and left are different casting numbers as they come from different castings, ie -the left and right are not the same. I would be interested in hearing from you concerning this to see if you know anything more about this casting number. Thanks. Larry - 68mako2

My hunch is that you have a pair of 291s cast on two consecutive days from different molds.

My hunch is that a 6 year old dug up thread will not go anywhere.
