Default Need some advice on 350

Hi folks,I have a bone stock 76 L48 350 which is a dog,I am thinking of upgrading it just a bit,I don't want a race car, just a driver with enough power to be fun. I'm thinking of a comp cams 470 cam and lifters aluminum intake,Holley carb,Hooker headers and Flowmasters.I know I need to change the heads to get what I want out of this motor but I can't decide which heads to go with!I don't really want Vortecs,Have been considering Dart Iron Eagles.I need some help from those of you who have done this! I need to keep this car fairly tame because my wife sometimes drives it,but would like to have 350 or so HP!

Just did a similar upgrade on my '74 L48. Check this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1816204

We started off talking about intakes but got into cams and heads. I got a lot of good advice.

I finally would up with a Weiand intake, Summit heads (manufactured by Dart) and a mild Summit cam. Got it running a couple of days ago and it made for a nice upgrade, a bit milder than what you are suggesting but much better than the stock engine and I came in at a little under $1000 for all parts.

No headers though...yet...

Its not really the engine thats the dog but the way its all put togather.
Add Summit headers ,2.5 exhaust pipe and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, then recurve the distributar and add a better coil and wires, up your idle timing to the top of the timing tab(12) and advance to 36 at 3000 RPMs.
Then take the Q-jet and get some smaller primary metering rods and bigger jets and adjust the secondays to open without that famous Q-jet bog.
This all will keep you satisfied for awhile.
Also visit the Camaro and Chevelle boards for even more tips on a small block Chevy engines, there all the same!!!!
