I'm Vetteless.......

Luckily I sold the Vette because I just wasn't driving it anymore. I am glad I wasn't one of the unlucky souls that had to sell them to keep food on the table and lights on in the house.
I tried to sell her before we moved to Tenn a year and 1/2 ago so we wouldn't have the trouble and expense of moving another car (we had the wife's, mine, the Vette and a Vega drag car). But with no bites we brought the Jessica (our name for the Vette) to Tenn. with us. Then the poor car sat. I drove it once or twice in 2006, took it to Cruise In, and then it sat some more. This year I took it out for New Year's Day, and then it sat till Cruise In again. I flogged the living hell out of it down the 1/4 mile and roasted the tires to the wear indicators at the burnout contest, and then spent 2 weeks cleaning sticky rubber and getting the smell of burnt Nitto's out of the interior (garage STILL smells of burnt rubber).
I got serious about selling after Cruise In. Placed adds in Corvette Trader (NO RESPONSES at all for over $200 in ads.) I went to the local car show and had better luck. A local remodeler wanted to buy a C3 but didn't have enough cash and didn't want a loan. So we worked a deal for $8000 cash and around $12K in bathroom remodeling. Well, the work in the bathroom is all done, I have a whirlpool tub, marble shower enclosure, new tile floors, and some walls removed and more space given to the bathroom. A total renovation that will add value to the house. Today the new owner came over and handed over the cash and drove away with a sweet looking red 1980 Vette.
I had to chuckle as he pulled out on to the street, touched the accelerator and about gave himself whip-lash and I heard him say "WHOA!!!"
So -- I join the long line of people who can say "I had a really nice Vette, but then I sold it."
No regrets so far, but I am sure I will miss my project car of the last 7 years.
I may even sell the Vega since it's only been to the track 4 times in 2 years, I can't stand to see a car not used to it's potential - like a thoroughbred sitting in the stall as the other horses run.See ya Jessica -- be nice to your new owner.
(posting the signature one last time so people can remember the car)
I'm knee deep in an engine and tranny swap in the 72, so I'm still cutting my knuckles on these beloved C3's.
