Default Smog pump brackets... which is which?

OK, goofy question. On the '69 (I guess '68-'76) smog system, the pump is held in place by 2 brackets... an orange one on the very bottom, a heavy brace with part number 3923214. The other bracket is an adjustible straight black one, listed as GM part number 3933093, but the part number is not on the part, it's blank.

Anyway... these 2 parts are always listed one under the other in various catalogs... as a "bracket" or "brace" or whatever, and one is usually about $70 and the other is usually about $35. I believe one or both is not repro'ed or is discontinued.

Anyone know which price corresponds to which? I have seen each part referred to as a "bracket" and as a "brace." I was guessing the heavy orange part was the more expensive one, but I don't really know that. Anyone know for sure?

Steve... Having just received my smog parts...and looking at the two pieces your quering, I'd say, the heavier piece is the 70 bucks! BTW: you might email Sal Carbone for these parts... it's my undestanding he has quite a selection. Here is his email, very nice guy and very prompt! www.restorationparts@aol.com Muddy

Steve,

The lower, cast iron part that is painted orange (was installed during engine assembly andprior to when the engine was painted) is the "bracket" and is listed as such in all of the GM literature that I'm aware of. The upper, stamped steel part is the "brace."

Not sure what reproduction parts prices are these days. I know and have done business with Sal for many years; he knows Corvettes very well and is a stand up guy. I don't know how involved Sal is in the parts business these days, but I'd definitely give him a try.

Another person to try is Bill Hodel at (330) 832-0871. Bill has done service/restoration work on the last four cars that I've restored or had restored. He does excellent work and is also a stand up guy. He restores A.I.R. systems on a regular basis and has pretty good inventory of parts.

Regards,
