I have a 71 330 hp convertible that needs at least front control arm bushings and a rear pinion seal. Given that I have no faith in the persons I got the car from and the cracked nature of the bushings, I'm leaning towards having both the front and back totally redone.
1. Does it make sense to have it all done at once, i.e., savings of time and maybe money as compared to doing some now, some later?
2. Can anyone suggest a shop near Elk Grove, CA to do it?
3. Does it take any specialized expertise or could somebody like Midas do it satisfactorily?
Thanks very much in advance for any info you may provide.
I just recently had the front bushings done as well as the rear camber struts. I don't see why doing all would be any cheaper but I would suggest that you get an estimate broken down for parts and labor. I was able to save quite a bit on parts buying them for one of the online vendors. The shop I was dealing with was buying parts from a local supplier and the prices were outrageous. He really didn't care as it was a pass through expense.
I'd do front/rear bushings all at once...A-arms,trailing arm, struts and carrier support bushing...also,checkyour idler arm, ball joints...
Also, try to find a shop that knows C3's...in my area we have about 3-4 choices..two Corvette shops and two alignment shops that specialize in suspension work...
I did the front and rear suspensions separately on my car. I had the trailing arms rebuilt by van steel, but did everything else myself including a new gas tank. On the front suspension I did all the work myself except for getting someone to press the new bushings in the a-arms.
