monday morning, while i was sleeping in (gotta love paid bank holidays) my wife was going to work...she comes back in and says her car is dead. it wont turnover, it wont click, it wont do anything. Well, my parents were in town visiting, so she took my mom's car. Anyways, I figured it was the battery, so i wanted to try to jump it...so my dad and i push her car next to my vette. I grab the jumper cables from her car...and pop my hood. Now i know the battery is bethind the driver seat, but i assumed there were posts or something i could use to hook up to. we look and look and look...dont see anything. So i open the door, take off the T-Top, and look at the battery. There doesnt seem to be an easy way to do this...
So in the end, we waited til she got home from school, and jumped it with my mom's car.
Is there something i am missing? How do i jump a car from my vette? or is this a "no-no"? or am i just a dummy for thinking this...
The reason you didn't find an easy way is because there really isn't one. If your clamps are small enough, you may get on the battery terminals. I've used a jump box on my battery in the car and although alittle hard to get the clamps on, it can be done. Ofcourse the other solution would be take the wife's battery out and drive to the parts store in the vette. They'll tell you if its bad or needs a charge and charge it for you for free.
I bought a set of jumper cables that have extended slots that will fit the new side post batteries, as well as the alligator type grips for the top mounted.
When I replaced the battery in my 75 I went for the dual posts battery to help remove this type of problem.
At the last dragstrip I went to, I noticed most of the cars had terminals at the back of the car (near the license plate) that connected to the battery in the trunk. Quick and easy was to jumpstart. Not sure how practical for a vette.

Yep - bad assumption.
Nothing wrong with jumping your car though. You just have to snake the cables behind the seat. (Get long, thick ones.) You're forgiven - your dad should have known this...

They actually make batteries now with both top and side posts. Years ago they came only with top posts. Then side posts became popular in the late '70s or so. So to accommodate all kinds, some batteries are made this way. If you need a battery, it's more important that you get the right battery than to worry about being able to jump another car.
the battery in my intrepid lives in the fender but the remote terminals it has are easy to get to from the engine bay.. something that probably wouldve come in handy for the C3
I just have side terminals and have had no problems jumping the car. Yup, had to jump it the first time I stopped for gas, when driving home after buying the car. That was sweet, let me tell you.
