Default Custom center armrest

Who made one and what materials did you use? I'm thinking MDF, but perhaps plywood is better suitable? What padding is best? Closed cell foam or...?

I know what shape and function I want, but how to get there is a little misty still

Are you talking about the padded cushion you can buy that goes between the seats? I have a dk grey one that came with my car, it looks like someone made it and did a pretty good job. You can dye it pretty easy.

You pay for shipping and it's yours if you want it.

Edit: Oops I didn't see you were from overseas......nevermind, shipping would eat you alive.

Just about every aftermarket Corvette parts supplier has the padded center console (e-brake) "T" cushion that can be provided to match your interior color and material. They are very inexpensive (about $30) and look great and are quite functional.

You can spend days creating something, or you can order one of these color-matched to your interior.

Thanks guys But what I meant was: who made their own center armrest/parking brake console? I'm familiar with the cushion but I'm planning on making it a small storage area so I can store some CD's.

Shipping and taxes (import rights mostly) indeed are a pita by the way

Does the console that we can buy from Ecklers http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...4&dept_id=1599 adhere to the center console or just rest in place?

TIA,

Kevin

I would build a mold out of Floral foam (idea from Musclecar on Spike) or wood, cover it with wax paper or tin foil, then brush some fiberglass resin on it, lay some fiberglass matting, more resin... build up and finish as required.

Hmm, interesting thought. I have used fleece before and chicken wire too, but floral foam... Just might work indeed! There's a florist just down the street, so he should be able to point me to the right addresses to get this stuff.

I found some floral foam at the Dollar store. 8" x 2" x 2" bricks for $1 each.

Nvts - Those are very cool, too bad there isn't one for a 78 in Oyster.

Interesting product. Too bad I live on the other side of the big pond: making one myself will be hundreds of dollars cheaper. Dollars which, since I still have to buy some 1.52 magnum rockers, I'd rather use for other purchases. However, this is very inspirational!

(As we say in Dutch: "Beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht!"
- This is a Dutch motto which roughly means in English: "It is better to steal something good then to invent something bad". )

It just sits in place. No problems with movement here.
