Both your car and my car were run by John Greenwood with the #48 on them in different years and events. Mine is better known as Spirit of Sebring '75. 48 appears to be a prefered # for him. Good to see your car is in good hands. If you want more background, I can put you in touch with Lance Smith. You probably already know him. He has owned most of the Greenwood cars, and still has a few.

I know Lance for 10 or 12 years now...I owned the BFG #48 25 years ago for maybe two weeks after it had been destroyed in John Cargill`s garage fire (Cargill was a friend of Rick Mancuso)...My vintage racer is the third of three (legitimate) Owens-Corning built cars (I have to say "legit" because there is at least one phony out there)...mine is documented 100% with an unbroken chain of ownership from Tony Delorenzo to me. It`s for sale if you know anyone!.....here is a pic of it "as raced" in Germany with it`s Randy Wittene paint job (Randy was and still is a GM styling engineer and friend of Tony`s).

The guy made a lot of bad mistakes there, he spin because he went into the bend with the wrong gear and pressed on the brakes too late blocking the rear end with no steering control and no torque at the rear wheels...with that kind of sharp bend you need to power shift just before approche it, get the engine to slow you down strongly and smoothly but still keeping full torque to get out and finish the bend playing with both throttle and steering...Look at this pic, speed is definitely higher then that of the C2 in the vid and still the front end is well nailed at the entrance, the rear tires are for a moment with little traction that will put my rear end on the direction of the bend end, give throttle just there and keep the front well on the same axel with the steering and you're in the position to get out of the bend like a missile...

I'm not saying I'm the driving master of the universe though , these are simple rules that all those who enjoy driving hard on sharp bends know well...

I got this info from the driver on YouTube:

I have a 377 cu in small block, Quartermaster triple disc clutch. 3.70 gear with a spool. I weigh in at 2700 lbs wet. Brakes are stock, rotors are drilled and slotted.
850 lb springs in the front, 460 lb mono leaf in the rear.
I don't know why I can drive deeper in corners, but I always seem to catch the faster cars in the twisty part.
I only use a 3/4# sway bar in the front, and a 5/8 bar in the rear. The blue stock car you see ahead of me has a 650 HP, 434 cu in SBC. A big $ motor. I build my own.
I'm 66 years old now and am having a great time with the Vintage crowd. Looking forward to the 08 season.

I kept waiting for that stock car to rocket past him on the straight again.

It can be frustrating. At Roebling one race, everyone flew past me on the straight, but I would nearly end in their back seat in the corners. By the time I could work my way through them, we'd be on the straight again and they would run away from me.

His small front bar/large rear bar is giving him a fair amount of oversteer, letting him get through those corners a lot easier than that stock car, especially with only SBC weight in front.

Default Questions on the the "RED" #4 Le Mans car

they had a sponsor decal on the the rear wheel arches, it had the words "IMPECA" and a white logo with a red background, does anyone know who or what the company was?

Nick

You know, what made these cars great in racing history was the SCCA racing they did. Depending on your area, there just may be some you can go to on a weekend.

Check www.scca.com for schedules.

I'd take this car over my racing Vette any day.

This is me warming up the motor for qualifying!

A fellow that lives down the street from me mentioned that he had some pictures of our car when it raced in 1960. He just happened to be at LeMans back in 1960 right by the pits of the car I own - SMALL WORLD OR WHAT?!?! I'm still in dis-belief that I have these images of our car racing during LeMans in 1960.

Here's the link to all the pictures he took: 1960 Corvette LeMans pictures (Cunningham Corvette) - click here.

Here's my favorite image:

Life is good,

Lance

PS Happy Easter!!
