Electric gremlims
This could take a bit. Hope your comfortable. When I got my car a few months ago I had a taillight problem. A forum member told be it was probably a bad ground or socket. So I bought a socket. Then I was blowing fuses in the dash. So I opted to take it to an electrical shop and have them fix both problems. 185 bucks later and I find all they did was replace the socket
They also said they found a loose wire in the dash. Didn't say they fixed dash just said coulda been the problem. And it was solved by the way. SO now I get a set of bubble taillights. rewire and all but appears maybe a bad bulb. Next day my wife said I have a light out. I don't see how any of this could have caused the problem but....Now my dash lights go on when I hit the brake. (solid on) Also from turn signals lights go on. Turn signals in dash go on when brake is applied. Turn signal switch doesn't work.Took all the wiring back to factory and don't have the kit from the bubbles hooked up. Same thing. Checked fuses. All new sockets and bulbs. Looks like its off to the shop tomorrow unless I have some dumb thing Ive done that can be undone...Any guesses?????????? $25.00 gift certificate to restaurant of you choice if you can figure it out. 1976 is the year by the way

Have you checked the harmonica connector under the column?
It sounds to me like you have some crossed wires, and you have a few of them. Both the brake and signal circuits power the gauge light circuits.
