Default Dilema

As noted in an earlier post the 1975 coupe I bought has at a minimum matching numbers vin and engine. Have not checked the tranny and rear end. My intentions were to either rebuild & power up the engine or replace with more HP engine. The engine needs a gasket job at minimum, Now I am in a delima should I beef up the engine, replace it or leave it stock and hope the value climbs at some point.

Scott,
I've seen a lot of people lately that pull the original engine and set it aside and then drop in a GM crate motor. Then if you ever sell the car, you have the original motor to go with it.

then I sold the old L48 to make more room in the garage. Unless your car is a vert or low mile all original #' matching show room condition C3 I would say don't chg anything. W/that run on sentence being typed 'Go 4 It' drop a big HP crate motor in it.

Buy or build the engine you want. That's what I'm doing with my '71. The original L48 will be buttoned up for storage and replaced with a 350 I'm building.

I would drop any expectation that the value will rise. Build the car that you will enjoy the most and then resale value will be moot because you will never want to sell it. I purchased my '71 12 years ago with the expectation of keeping it four years and then moving up to something more exotic. I ended up liking it so much that now it looks I'm in for life.

Yup, pulled the ****ty underpowered L82 and TH400 cleaned and greased the hell out o them. Packed in crate with paper and poured hot grease over the whole mess and sealed up. Have another box to take all the other **** that comes off. Ya never know if the value goes up enough for some NCRS guru that will fork over the wifes life savings for your car and whats in the boxes. Ya never know I'll be dead by then. Just like collecting coins, it will benefit a family member if they know whats going on.
Built what you want just save all the parts if you dont need the cash, and you have a safe dry space to store em. Also photo all items along with all the things in your house most insurances pay-off on antiques if ya house burns, just have to prove it.
