What a great letter! Thought I would share it with you guys

Hey Tom,

Just wanted to let you know, the problem with the radiator was me...not your radiator. When I returned with my mechanic yesterday with the pressure tester to check out the vette, I laid under the car and looked carefully at the area that was leaking. Sure enough, coolant was coming down from the radiator hose. My mechanic is always fusing at me to tighten bolts and screws much more than I do.

After we hooked up the pressure tester, it really confirmed that the leak was coming from a loose radiator hose as you had suggested. I tightened it, and we pressure tested again...but only at 7 lbs as that is as high as we could get the pressure tester to go due to fitting problems. No leak. I was happy.

I just wanted to let you know that your service was immpecable....I had an initial quick response even though I had mentioned "problem". And from that point on, your emails were very quick and they were of genuine concern for getting the problem fixed as soon as possible. You did not blame me for anything, you did not make me feel uncomforable at any time...only that the problem would be fixed and I would be made happy. That customer treatment speaks volumes these days.

I must say that you made me feel as if my problem was the only one in the world...that was also appreciated. If you ever need a reference or testimonal...please feel free to use me or my email as someone to contact. I certainly will give you an A plus and trust me, that is high and very very rare coming from me.

I will certainly recommend you to my vette friends without reservation.

Thank you again Tom,

Sincerely,

Jimmy Wooten

I love my DeWitt radiator and it is also in a 68 Coupe with 327/350 HP and a/c just like the guy in the letter, and my car runs right where the temp should be.
Great product and good company to do business with.
I had lots of questions before I bought mine as I was doing a factory restorations and they answered all my questions and my radiator looks, fits, and performs like it came right from the St. Louis assembly line.

I just bought a radiator from Tom. Missed out on the group buy. I bought the reproduction harrison for my 63 undetailed. It was really expensive but is rated way above enything else out there. I think the B/C is rated @ 3200 btu, the Tom's Direct Fit Aluminum is 4100 and the repro is 4800. Wanted to retain the 63 look, core support and shroud (Chrome) but got to cool 500HP. This was my best option.
First one was delivered Wed damaged. Called on Thurs, They said they would issue a call tag and have UPS pick it up. It was picked up Fri for Tues delivery to them. My new undamaged radiator was delivered to my house the following Wed. Great Service!! To Dewitt's
I was treated very well from the time I sent an E-mail asking about my nontypical needs to the replacement of the damaged product. Quick, efficient, courteous and very professional.A+

Well then you should be about ready to change the fluid for the second time, or is it the first one? I'm not singling you out, it's just so easy to forget to do this. Especially if you want it to last 20yrs.
Use Distilled water and write that date down somewhere. I forget what I had for lunch and to try to remember what I did two or three years ago is just not going to happen.

I have been looking at radiators from various vendors for about a month. I decided on a Dewitts. No other company has this kind of reputation. I will be buying one soon.
Keep up the good work Tom.

Tom,
Why distilled water and not tap water?
I haven't heard of this before.
Mine has been in for 2 years now; should I be doing something?
Thank you,
Kurt

This is big and everyone with an aluminum radiator should pay close attention. City water is processed differently everywhere. Some systems soften the water which will leave sodium or salt. Some places have florides or calcuim, and/or iron. No city water has nothing in it. Minerals and aluminum do not get along. They will attack the aluminum even when a coolant package is brand new and kill the radiator when the coolant package is depleted. I just attended a corrosion seminar and it scared the hell out of me. For the cost of coolant, I probably will now replace my coolant every year!
The reason coolant companies publish a change date isn't because they want to sell more coolant. It's because the inhibitor package that is built into the coolant slowly dies out, and after 24 months, it isn't strong enough to fight off the natural corosion effects of water and minerals, so it starts eating the radiator. It's not anything like running over time on an oil change, which probably will have no effect at all.
We all do the same thing when it comes to coolant. We open the cap and see lime green and say "it looks good". Having no clue as to the last time we changed it. I found myself doing it to a car I bought last year. Then it hit me....I thought wait a minute, I don't know when it has been changed or with what. It could be 3-4 years old and I'm thinking it's fine because it's green? Or I'm prepared to let it go longer? What we all need to do is change it. But then write it down somewhere, and put a note in the glove box or your wallet. Remember, Color means nothing! You wouldn't drink milk if you knew it was two months old, even if it was still white, right? Coolant that has turned brown was dead years ago and all that brown is your engine. Another thing you might want to do as a simple test is check to voltage in the coolant. If you have a volt meter, poke the positive into the coolant and if it measures more than .1 volts, you have a short somewhere and electrolysis may develop.

My buddy has a 540 that makes around 720 HP and 685 ft lbs. He bought a DeWitts direct fit for the car. It has dual spals on it and that car never runs warm. We have one fan set up to come on by itself. If that fan cannot handle it the other fan can be manually controlled. If he forgets to turn off the manual fan the radiator works so well that it will continue to cool the motor to the point that the needle is back down around 100. It amazes me how well it cools that car. TNBUSA is my buddy. Shoot him a PM and ask him how well it works in his car.

Always use distilled/demineralized water when filling the radiator. Its cheap and goes a long way toward the life of your radiator.

Tom,

My wife informed me that my radiator that I ordered from you just arrived. Woo Hoo!

Thanks for putting up the information regarding the use of distilled water. I'll get a gallon or two.

Take care.

Letters like that are the reason we only offer DeWitts to our customers.

I will be ordering a DeWitt's soon as well. Just had the system flushed on Wednesday in preparation for removal and new install. My heater core died about a month ago and I just bypassed it until I could take the car down for winter, which is now in my part of the world.

Tom-
Thanks for the explaination of the distilled H2O use, been wondering about that one. Do the corrosion inhibitor additives you can buy work or should you just drain it every 2 years?

I didn't see a heater core on the DeWitt's website. Do you make one or who do you recommend for it and the bypass valve?

I hate to even ask, but are you going to do your free shipping program again this winter?
