Default Mystery lunch run..

We decided to go ahead with our monthly "mystery lunch run " today...it was hot..up in low 90's...Dewitts rad got a good test with A/C on climbing long hills,etc..temps never exceeded 196 F or so..could hear clutch fan kicking in now and then...35 vettes made the run..oldest vettes were 63 split window,63 hard top,69 rat and our 78 SA...

Crusing Gopher Canyon...

Looks like a fun day! What exactly is a "mystery lunch run" anyways? Is it a mystery where you will end up, or a mystery what lunch will be?

Host vette sets route, arrangements somewhere for lunch...the rest follow without knowing anything about route or destination.....most of the time a buffet is arranged..easier on restaurant/group...

Going into our 6th year...most runs 40-70 miles one way..but we have been up to near 100 miles...

I always thought that "mystery lunch runs" is what you get after you buy lunch from the roach coach... (sorry, couldn't resist)

rihwoods - Those can be pretty fun - looks like yours was. Also, the runs that Corvette Mike sponsors (don't know if he still does) are/were pretty cool too!

We call them "gut trucks" down here....

Problem now is available two lane routes are drasticlly reduced from all the fires we just experienced...

We have only one left in San Diego East County out of 6 or so until clean up is completed...some are still closed to traffic...

Great pictures, Rich! Especially like that last one - nice framing!

Didn't realize you're in San Diego - one of my Dad's most favorite places in the world! I take it you're safe from the fires?

We have a run this Saturday planned and have found one good route not affected by fires....this involves another group I run with called Corvette/Cobras...all forum members....not a club....just guys/gals who like to get out and drive...we organize right here on the "SoCal Regional Event" forum....If you go there, check out "MVCC GTG"S" or "Varmit Corvette/Cobra GTG"....crazy bunch...

Our lessons learned for large groups...ie 25 vettes +..

We quickly evolved to arranging buffet's with restaurants...much easier but in any case, the "run" host calls and makes arrangements a few weeks in advance including estimate of how may people...to our suprise, none have requested a deposit up front...
We also hand out phone contact to run participants (without revealing destination)should anyone get lost on the way...

Rich,

Been working to get mine done, and am getting close. You swear by the Dewitts radiator I see. I may have to go that way, but want to get it operable first.

Good to see you are out there!

Hi Joe !! Good to hear from you...we are still planing a run your way...I'll let you and Greg know when

I can't say enough about the Dewitts...I installed in the 78 because of the A/C.....still using the C/B four row rad in the 69,but not burdened with A/C on that one...

I like the video. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who tries to record and drive at the same time. Sometimes it's tricky. I'm working on a removable mount on the dashboard.
