I purchased a 69 with sidepipes that had been stripped for painting. The sidepipe covers that are shown in the assembly manual show the bolts going through the cover, however, my covers do not have bolts holes going through them. Is there another piece that they should bolt onto before being attached to the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The metal "shells" should be attached to (black) fiberglass insulators. These insulators are the parts that have the holes in them (6 per side) and are the way the sidepipes attach to the rockers.
See the picture from the AIM manual that someone posted.
Unfortunately, if you don't have the fiberglass insulators, they're hard to come by and are extremely expensive to purchase new. Most of the vendors don't even sell them separately...one of the vendors had them (Paragon, maybe)...they were $799 a set, just for the fiberglass insulators.
Hope that helps!
Sorry, I just reread that and saw that you have the AIM manual. Anyways, the insulators are the missing link, from the sounds of it.
Thanks for your help. I may have these somewhere and didn't know what they were. I have a couple of boxes that came with the car. If not, then I guess I will be in the market for the insulators.
The insulators are difficult to find, I think, because the outer covers get re-plated or replaced but the insulators get used over and over.
Regards,
Alan
